The Metoo campaign and the Indian film industry

If you are into social media, I'm sure your account must have popped at least one article on the me too campaign in the recent days. Surprisingly enough, the metoo campaign has minaciously stormed all aspects of media known to us.
A campaign which started in 2017 in the United States with the first allegations against Harvey Weinstein has become one of the most talked about issues in the recent times in India. A lot of women have come out in the open sharing their unfortunate victimization and sexual harassment at workplace.
The Indian film industry, to be obvious has caught a lot of attention as actresses and people from the Industry have come out accusing the people from the Industry within. One of the most viral has been with Tanushree Dutta coming out accusing Nana Patekar of sexually harassing and mentally tormenting her on the sets of “Horn Ok” in 2008. A lot of people have come out to support the 33 year old actress while a lot have been accusing her of lying and doing it for attention.
We are nobody to judge since no side has been proven to be true. Whatsover be the outcome, the worst thing is when you realize that we are living in a country where a lot of women are not made to feel safe at their workplace and their voice is being suppressed.
But it's not only about men harassing women, a female standup comic Kaneez Surkha recently accused Aditi Mittal another standup comic of forcibly attempting to kiss the former. A senior actor Alok nath has also been accused of victimizing.
When such unfortunate series of events come into light, we begin questioning the state of our country and it's law. Let's ask ourselves “ why always women?” What happened to the slogan “Mahilaon ko surakhsha na de pane walo, janta maaf nahi karegi”.
Most of the people from the film industry are saying to respect a woman's voice when she is coming out to speak up for herself which is the least we can do. Do you really think that is the least the people and the government can possibly do? Is that the genre of Justice the government can provide to a girl who has been victimized and sexually harassed, making her feel unsafe at workplace? You might say that Tanushree is wrong and it is all a publicity stunt, but when you know that a lot of other women are coming out who had been suppressed for years what do you have to say about it?
A woman should be given the right to feel safe in the surrounding she lives and works. It is every citizen’s duty to help making it happen so.
